An original lino print by a UK based Christian artist, depicting the Chapel of St Columba at Iona Abbey, a holy place on the beautiful Isle of Iona in the Inner Hebrides.
Please note that this is a drying print which will be available for posting on Friday 27th June.
This is an original design, hand printed using premium oil-based ink on high-quality white A4 paper. Every print is different and subject to small amounts of variation, showcasing the unique nature of printmaking.
The chapel is surrounded by words from William Henry Draper's hymn, In our day of thanksgiving:
These stones that have echoed their praises are holy,
and dear is the ground where their feet have once trod;
yet here they confessed they were strangers and pilgrims,
and still they were seeking the city of God.
This tiny building is said to be built over the original site of St Columba's tomb (though his relics were removed to safety away from Viking raids in the ninth century). Before it stands the stone Cross of St John, casting its shadow over the chapel. The original cross, dating from the 800s, is stored in the Abbey museum, but a modern replica stands in its stead.
